hostgator and hostmonster are two of the largest web hosting providers. But who is better when you have to choose from they two? Let's make a quick comparison and get the basic conclusion about the two hosts.
Hostgator, almost the name of standard cpanel hosting. Known as the global positive feedbacks and the large amount of different grades clients. Hostgator offers lots of hosting solutions including shared, VPS and dedicated server hosting plans. The spotlight of the hostgator is we get the same quality service no matter which hosting plan we sign up, the difference is only about the amount of server resource limitations. We can always choose the suitable hosting plan based our website requirements.
How about hostmonster? The hostmonster is actually another brand of bluehost company. Hostmonster is featured with a single hosting plan with every service offered such as free domain registration and unlimited space/data transfer etc. Because of such features, visitors do not have further choice but have to follow up with the default offers and not sure how much they can get exactly. The result is many website will go over the actual limits and get warning or suspension directly.
So what kind of websites are compatible with hostmonster hosting? The answer is small to medium size personal blogs or enterprise sites. In case you're running a web forum or shopping cart site, the hostmonster server can not handle the traffic.

I signed up with Hostgator on Aug. 28th because I heard they rocked. It is now Sept. 15th and I still am having problems. I have spent over 9 hours online over this time with one rude, inept, and brainless inchworm they call their staff. I have over 42 emails. I have spoken to more the 14 people including “managers”. All this nonsense just to switch hosting from GoDaddy to Hostgator. This was the WORST decision I ever made in my 20 years of business. If you are foolish enough to sign up with them, be prepared for hours of being on hold, listening to poorly trained vacuum headed bodies typing endlessly on the other end. What they are typing is beyond me. How Hostgator got a good reputation is incomprehensible.
Tonight, Sept. 15th I got a call on my message machine from a person who could not speak English very well, mumbled, said something about solving my problem, asked what platform I was on with hostgator (you would think when calling an irate customer one just might look up basic information available since I am using their hosting), then he hung up without leaving any phone number. I used my machine to track the number, got someone, who asked the usual questions. I begged them to please get me a manager. He asked why, I said because I have been on the phone over 9 hours this week with one idiot after another and did not want to waste my time, he said he would not put up with that “abusive” language and hung up on me. I called back got another person, explained the same thing again and they put me on hold for 11 minutes before I hung up out of frustration. My advice, go with anyone but hostgator. No company should take 19 days to just migrate your website and set up email.
Sorry to hear about the terrible experience. Make sure to get your backup and migrate to a more responsive provider. As HG already merged to EIG, their headquater might still in transition process.
